Ear candles are hollow tubes made from natural materials such as cotton or linen infused with beeswax or essential oils. When lit, they create a mild vacuum effect and gentle warmth that may help loosen earwax and promote relaxation.
2. Are ear candles a safe treatment?
When used correctly by a trained therapist in a controlled environment, ear candling is generally considered safe. It’s important to follow proper protocols and never leave a lit candle unattended during treatment.
3. What are the benefits of ear candling?
Ear candling may help with a sense of pressure relief in the ears and sinuses, relaxation, and general well-being. It is often used in holistic therapy to support calming treatments, though it is not a medically recognised procedure.
4. Do your ear candles contain any synthetic ingredients?
No. Our ear candles are made from natural fibres like cotton or flax, infused with beeswax or essential oils. They are free from synthetic additives and chosen for their soothing, clean-burning qualities.
5. Are your ear candles suitable for salon and spa use?
Yes. Our candles are salon-grade, safety-filtered, and individually wrapped to maintain hygiene. They’re ideal for holistic salons, spas, and wellness therapists offering relaxation-based treatments.
6. Do you offer different scents or infused options?
We do. Choose from neutral beeswax, lavender-infused, or other aromatherapy blends — each designed to enhance the calming experience of ear candling sessions.
7. Can ear candling be combined with other treatments?
Yes. It’s often paired with facial massage, aromatherapy, or sinus pressure point therapy as part of a relaxing holistic session in salons or spas.
8. How long does an ear candling session typically take?
A typical ear candling treatment takes around 30–45 minutes for both ears, including consultation, treatment, and post-treatment rest.
9. Are your ear candles suitable for home use?
While they are professional quality, we recommend ear candling be performed by trained practitioners to ensure safety and correct usage. Home use is not advised without proper guidance.
10. Do you offer fast delivery on ear candles?
Yes. Orders over £65 + VAT qualify for Free Next Day DPD Delivery across Mainland UK. Order before 1pm Monday–Friday for same-day dispatch on in-stock items.
Often called Hopi ear candling and also known as thermo-auricular therapy, treatment with ear candles is a complementary therapy, not designed to cure or resolve any specific ailment. Yet many people believe this procedure is excellent for relaxation and overall health. At SalonServe, we believe individuals should be able to decide what type of complementary therapy will support their well-being.
A Step-by-Step Guide on How to Use Ear Candles
Measure the candle’s tapered, or little, end against your ear. The candle ought to be customised to your ear’s dimensions and shape. This can guarantee the safest and most efficient candling procedure.
To fill the ear canal, slightly enlarge the opening created by trimming the end of the candle with the scissors.
Check that the opening is adequate. The path from one end of the candle to the other should be obvious.
Wash your hands thoroughly to reduce the possibility of microorganisms causing an infection. Use a mild, antimicrobial, and antibacterial soap — the World Health Organisation (WHO) hand washing guide is a helpful visual reference to encourage the correct hand washing technique.
Your client can lie down or remain sitting and tilt their head to one side. Many therapists prefer to perform ear candling while the client is lying on one side as this tends to feel more relaxing and reduces the possibility of the candle slipping out of position.
Gently wipe your client’s outer ear with a warm, damp cloth and then dry off the ear.
Massage the region surrounding and behind the ear for around 30 seconds. This can help to relax your client and increase circulation in the inner ear.
The candle must have a secure fit. If no smoke escapes from between the inner ear and the candle, you know it’s correctly positioned. If you don’t have an appropriate alignment, modify your client’s position or the angle of the candle. Occasionally, if this doesn’t work, you might want to attempt it afresh with a different candle.
Let the candle burn until it is approximately three to four inches away from the ear’s opening. This will typically take around 10 to 15 minutes. If it appears to be taking too long, remove the candle and check that the opening is clear. Sometimes, you might need to quickly clean the opening with a tool such as a toothpick before re-inserting the candle.
Remove the remaining candle stub and ask your client if they want you to open it to reveal debris inside.
Gently wipe and dry the outer ear, and repeat the same steps for the other ear.
